Celebrate Asia! 2010 will feature the world renowned Seattle Symphony Orchestra.  This year’s path-breaking program draws upon a theme of “love”, and will present the best of East and West.
  • Carolyn Kuan, recognized as one of the most innovative and outstanding conductors of her generation, will bring her dynamic presence to the stage once again.
  • Soloist and violin virtuoso, Chuanyun Li, from Beijing, will perform “Butterfly Lover’s Concerto” in its entirety, expanding Warren Chang’s delightful er-hu interpretation in 2009.
  • Highlights include a performance by master of the Mongolian morin khuur, Bo Li.

Following the success of the inaugural Celebrate Asia! concert in January 2009, Seattle Symphony announces a new Celebrate Asia! series, featuring three exciting concerts with both local and international talent. The first concert will take place November 10 and will feature an intimate recital with Chinese guitarist Xuefei Yang performing works by J.S. Bach, Albéniz, Tárrega and arrangements of Chinese songs by Stephen Goss. On January 22, Seattle Symphony presents a love-themed program with world-renowned Chinese violinist Chuanyun Li performing the stunning Butterfly Lovers Concerto. For the third concert of the series, Jun Märkl will conduct German Romantics on May 15, with pianist Jon Nakamatsu performing Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. This concert features both a conductor and pianist of Japanese descent.
